Watch straps – Trendy as they are.

Watches are accessories, which are necessary to be able to tell time accurately. Both men and women and children wear watches. A watch is an everyday item which is common to all races and gender. Watches come in different shapes and sizes. There are also different kinds of watches. There are pocket watches, stop watches and wristwatches. The wrist watch needs to be attached to a person using watch straps at the wrist. The pocket watch usually has a chain attaching it to the person while the stop watch is usually just held in the hand.

Let us talk about the wrist watch. Initially invented during the late 1500’s or early 1600’s, the wrist watch was at first used by ladies. The watch straps used were different kinds ranging from ribbons, cloth and leather straps. The men started seeing the convenience of a wrist watch during World War I. Nowadays on the other hand, wristwatches have a variety of watch straps. The most common are the leather watch straps and the metal watch straps. Watch straps also come in plastic and fabric.

Leather watch straps are flexible straps which come in a variety of sources. Some are plain cowhide while others are the expensive crocodile skin. Leather watch straps are various that a person can choose watch straps according to his preference. Color and texture are variables and so are softness and flexibility. A drawback of leather watch straps is the durability of the leather. Most leathers grow brittle and corrode especially when exposed to sweat and sun.

On the other hand, metal watch straps are not usually as colorful as the leather watch straps. Although metal can be anodized to satisfy a person’s craving for color, most people who prefer to use metal wristwatches do not go for color. The color variants for metal watch straps are still metallic in tone. One drawback for metal watch straps is the uncanny ability of the metal to catch the fine hairs at the wrist. This may cause a slight discomfort but if it happens a lot of times, one may be put off from wearing a metal watch strap. Not all metal watch straps catch hair so one must be careful which strap design to choose.

Plastic and fabric watch straps are popular among children and young adults. These materials are colorful and can have designs on them. These kinds of watch straps are also not as durable as the metal ones. Plastic can grow brittle and just snap off while fabric is too soft and can easily wear out.
