Leather watch straps – For that royal look.

Watches have been around for years. They are necessary instruments, which keeps us on time and in place. Watches were invented around the early 1500’s. They started out as pocket watches and evolved to wristwatches. Initially a ladies’ accessory, watches are now being used by both genders for fashion reasons. In fact, watches now more fashion-based accessories similar to clothes and shoes. They have also evolved from the typical round faced watch to any shape and size. It is not only the shape and size of the watch that has changed but also the straps.

Straps were ribbons and other fabrics as made for women. Then they were leather watch straps and now there are also metal and plastic straps for watches. The kind of strap used by a person is a matter of preference. Some people prefer metal straps, while others like the traditional leather watch straps. Children mostly like plastic straps which come in different variations and colors. Some dislike metal straps because these straps sometimes catch the fine hairs on the wrist. This makes wearing a metal strap uncomfortable and sometimes downright painful.

Leather watch straps are a favorite because they are not as rigid as the plastic ones and they are not as heavy as the steel straps. Leather watch straps now have many variations which a user might choose from. Leather not only comes from cows but they are also available from ostriches, snake and other animals. The most common leather watch straps are from cowhide. These are first tanned and then treated before they are sold to manufacturers who make them into leather watch straps. These straps may be polished or suede leather. The two kinds of cowhide leather have different maintenance and care but they both need occasional care to protect from becoming brittle and breaking off.

Ostrich leather is not a popular choice as leather watch straps because the leather has bumps on it. These bumps are from the ostriches feathers. Most ostrich leather is made into shoes, bags and other larger leather items. Snake and crocodile leather watch straps are more expensive than the ordinary cow leather because these animals are especially grown for their skin. There is also a certain amount of danger from acquiring the skin of these animals. These two leather watch straps look similar because the crocodile skin used to make leather watch straps is usually the skin with smaller scales to enable the clients to appreciate the beauty of the skin.
